KST on Good Day Atlanta

Transcribed by Gretchen

Gurvir Dhindsa: Passion, murder, and a woman struggling with the decisions in her life sweeps us into Pre-War Florence Italy in a new movie. It's called Up At The Villa and it stars Sean Penn and Kristin Scott Thomas.

*UATV Clip*

Kristin Scott Thomas: This character was just irresistible to me. I loved the idea of playing someone who umm... hasn't got a clue, really. And is completely umm.. keeps making these horrific mistakes and then has to spend the rest of the time making up for these mistakes. Doesn't know what she wants. Doesn't know who she is. And then discovers it at the end.

*UATV Clip*

GD: There were times when I like her, but then there were times when I really didn't like her very much at all.

KST: Yeah, I know. I know. (nodding head in agreement). Like everybody.

GD: Yeah. You know, I was thinking "OK.. Gee -- Why are you doing that?"

KST: I know..

GD: You know, the scene with the Austrian.

KST: Yeah, it's awful, isn't it?

*UATV Clip*

GD: You know, this film is one, too, that sweeps you up with its grandeur. With the .. from the opening scene where they're having the umm...

KST: .. the ball

GD: Yeah, the ball. Everything was just so dramatic and so rich... I guess. And that was all part of the scene setting that Phillip I guess wanted and envisioned.

(KST in background: mmm hmmm.. mmm hmmm... mmm hmmm)

KST: And then to see Mary in all that. Because Mary is kind of, in fact, a little bit sort of shabby, really. Because she doesn't... I mean.. she's been lent all of this. And she says it during the film. She says ummm. "You can't possibly know what it's like to depend on the generosity of others, however freely given", you know. She's aware of the fact that she's only there because of other people letting her be there. It's a horrible situation to be in -- To have no independence whatsoever.

GD: I enjoyed it though. The last time I talked with you was, gee, months ago for Random Hearts. Now you're so cute! You're pregnant!

GD laughs/KST smiles

KST: (looks at stomach) There's a baby in there

GD: How many months along?

KST: I'm expecting in August, so it's, uh, six months.

GD: Yeah.. So, this is big number...?

KST: 3

GD: 3

KST:: I must be crazy!

GD: Either that or you love being a momma!

(KST smiles and sort of nods head)

GD: How do you find time to do that inbetween all of your..

KST: You just do. You just do. Any working mother will tell you the same thing. It's just a question of juggling.

GD: Yeah. It's good to see you again!

KST: Thank you.
